Carlisle Bay is the island’s best-known starting point for shipwreck and turtle snorkelling. Paynes Bay is also associated with boat-based turtle trips. Seeing turtles is never guaranteed, and responsible operators should avoid chasing, touching or feeding wildlife.
Shore or boat?
A guided boat trip can be easier for first-time snorkellers because operators know common sites and can provide flotation equipment. Confident swimmers may prefer shore access, but must account for boats, current and visibility.
Choose an operator carefully
Ask about group size, safety briefings, equipment, cancellation terms and wildlife practices. The cheapest trip is not necessarily the best experience.
