The Caribbean-facing west coast is often calmer than the Atlantic east coast, but no beach is permanently safe. Swell, wind, currents, shore break, reef, boats and weather all affect the day.

Follow flags and lifeguards where present. Ask a reputable local operator when unsure. Do not enter rough water because other people appear confident.
Atlantic beaches
Bathsheba, Cattlewash, Bottom Bay and much of the north coast are best treated as scenic destinations unless knowledgeable local guidance indicates a safe place and time to enter the water.
