Barbados planning guide

Planning an accessible Barbados beach day

Questions to ask about parking, surfaces, steps, shade and getting into the water.

“Accessible” can mean very different things. A beach may have level road access but deep sand; a hotel may offer a ramp that is not available to non-guests; a public entrance may be narrow or stepped.

Ask specific questions

Confirm the distance from drop-off to sand, surface type, gradients, toilet access, seating, shade, assistance and whether a beach wheelchair is available.

Start with practical locations

Accra Beach and selected serviced sections of Carlisle Bay may be easier starting points than cliff-backed or discreet-access beaches. Conditions and facilities must still be checked directly before travel.
