Carry water, high-factor sun protection, a hat, a light cover-up, a dry bag, a reusable rubbish bag and secure footwear. Add your own shade when visiting quieter west-coast bays or remote east and north-coast locations.
For snorkelling
Bring a well-fitting mask if you are particular about equipment. Use a brightly visible flotation aid only when appropriate and stay alert to boats.

Download locations before leaving Wi-Fi, keep valuables out of sight and carry a small amount of cash for local vendors.
